Q&A with our farmer, Hayley

How long have you had the property on the NSW South Coast?

We’ve been on the farm for 16 years and have 560 Jersey cows on the farm.

What do you love most about where you live?

I love that it’s green most of the year. We are close to town and to the beach, but we still get to enjoy a rural lifestyle. The climate is also perfect for the cows, it’s not too cold in winter or hot for too long in the summer. And normally our rainfall is pretty reliable rainfall too.

What made you decide to be a dairy farmer?

My love for the cows, they can teach you so much. It is really hard work and sometimes you have bad days, but sometimes miracles happen which makes it all worthwhile. At times you are at the mercy of the weather, flood or drought, but you always have the cows and they need you as much as you need them. It’s a partnership. We love seeing the things we plant grow into amazing feed for the cows. We love seeing our best show cow have a calf that then goes onto be a champion herself, these are the special moments. And it’s nice that the farm provides an income not just our family, but also the 5 people who work with us. It’s challenging, rewarding and a great life for our son to grow up in.

What is your favourite thing to make with Made by Cow milk?
